Akpabio Speaks on Withdrawing Tinubu Tax Reform Bills from The Senate

APC winning the Edo 2024 Election shows the confidence Nigerians have in Tinubu, Akpabio has said.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has claimed that the victory of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate in the Edo State governorship election is a reflection of the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu.

This online news platform understands that the Senate President made this comment on Sunday, September 22, 2024, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

According to the Edo 2024 governorship election results from 18 local government areas (LGAs) announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, Okpebholo secured a total of 291,667 votes. His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,655 votes.

On the other hand, Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata, finished third, receiving a total of 22,763 votes. Fourteen other candidates contested the seat but got less than the three frontline candidates.

“That Monday Okpebholo of the APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” INEC’s Returning Officer for the poll, Prof Faruk Kuta, said at exactly 09:27 pm, to delightful cheers from APC supporters at the collation centre in Benin City, the state capital on Sunday.

Professor Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State, declared the winner of the poll after a series of recesses.

The APC candidate cleared over 10 of the 18 local government areas, leaving the PDP candidate with marginal victory in the other local councils. The APC gained control in two of the three battleground senatorial districts in the state.

Reacting to the Edo 2024 Election results, the Senate President said: “I strongly believe that the election in Edo, though tense at the beginning, is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians continue to express in President Tinubu,” Akpabio opined.
