This online news platform understands that Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead counsel to IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu.

“We have just confirmed through a correspondence from the Federal High Court Abuja, about the arrest and the extradition of my Client- Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian state.

“It is to be noted therefore, that no matter the gravity of the offences or charge preferred against him, Section 36(5) of the Constitution still presumes him innocent of the allegation,” IPOB lawyer said on Nnamdi Kanu.

However, after Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, a report has emerged alleging that the IPOB leader was lured, cornered and arrested.

Today’s [June 29] appearance by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Abuja High Court has caused shock waves across the regions of Nigeria. This is as the Attorney General of Nigeria, Malami confirmed in a news conference that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was in their custody. Our source indicated that members of the Ohaneze Ndigbo and other leaders and/or elders of Igboland were used to initiate talks with the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra [IPOB]. Dr. Ezeife, the one-time Governor of Anambra State is reported to be the leader of the group who opened talks with the leader of IPOB. The talks were particularly geared towards dropping their armed agitation against “Killer Fulani Herdsmen” and to consider opening a channel to negotiate with the federal government of Nigeria.

The talks started a little over a month ago – coinciding with the halt in the activities of the unknown gun men across the south south and south east regions. Our source reveals that the leader of IPOB agreed to halt all activities of the Eastern Security Network [ESN] for the period of the negotiation. The ESN is the security offshoot of IPOB. According to the IPOB mantra, the ESN is to rid the south south and south east regions of all “killer Fulani herdsmen”.

Although available information remains sketchy, it was learnt that Nnamdi Kanu was talked into meeting with selected group of negotiators. He was to meet them at a neutral location – Ethiopia. The identities of the personalities in the group are not immediately available to 247ureports.com.

It was through the arranged meeting that the security operatives monitored the movements of the involved parties. He was then cornered and arrested. Another source close to the security structure of Nigeria told a different story. He indicates that the British security operatives had been on the trail of Nnamdi Kanu for many months. “It was Interpol that nabbed him and handed him over to Nigerian authorities“.

The publicity secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful was reached for comment. He did not respond.
