10 New Cases Of Coronavirus In Nigeria Confirmed

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has announced ten new cases of coronavirus disease in the country, in addition to the existing twelve cases.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that with the development, Nigeria now has twenty-two confirmed cases of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Updating Nigerians on the development, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted that of the 10 new cases, 3 are in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and 7 are in Lagos, adding that  9 out of the 10 cases have travel history outside Nigeria in the last one week while the 10th case is a close contact of a confirmed case.

The NCDC tweeted: “@Fmohnigeria has confirmed 10 new cases of #COVID19 in #Nigeria Of the 10 new cases, 3 are in the Federal Capital Territory and 7 are in Lagos 9 out of the 10 cases have travel history outside Nigeria in the last one week. The 10th case is a close contact of a confirmed case.

“All new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are being managed at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and Infectious Disease Hospital, Lagos. We urge the public to remain calm and adhere to social distancing and other measures in place,” the tweet added.

Meanwhile, this is coming barely 24 hours after Coronavirus in Nigeriaindex case, who is an Italian, has tested negative to the deadly COVID-19 and was discharged.

NewsOne Nigeria reports Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial city, made this known in a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Friday night, March 20.

The governor tweeted: “As the COVID-19 Incident Commander for Lagos, I am glad to inform you that the index case; the Italian gentleman is now negative. Through a combined effort of Lagos, Ogun State and Fed Health Authorities, we were able to limit the transmission of the virus to a single contact.

“This involved aggressive contact tracing and containment strategies. However, we now have several new imported cases and we hope we can apply the same contact tracing strategy along with social distancing to slow down the outbreak which may be brewing from these new cases.

“The index patient consented to donating one unit of white blood (plasma) before he was discharged today. The blood plasma is rich in antibody proteins that target #COVID19 virus. The white blood plasma is frozen in our Bio-bank and will be useful in handling new cases,” the governor tweeted.

Meanwhile, NewsOne Nigeria recalls that the Federal Ministry of Health on Friday morning, February 28, confirmed the first case of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city.
