NewsOne Nigeria reports that Mr Herman Hembe, a member of the House of Representatives from Benue State, has defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.

This online news platform understands that Hembe’s letter of defection was read at the opening of plenary on Tuesday by the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase.

Apparently displeased with the decision of the Reps member, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, however, raised a point of order to fault the defection, urging Wase to declare the defector’s seat vacant.

Popular Reps Member’s decision annoys Minority leader

“By the grace of God, I am the Minority Leader of this House. I am not aware that there is a crisis in APGA and so, what he has done is illegal and the Speaker should declare his seat vacant. We are going to contest this,” a furious Elumelu argued.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives declined the request, citing the examples of similar defections in the past that were not sanctioned.
