Newsone Nigeria reports that Tope Temokun, Dele Farotimi‘s counsel, says his client did not send the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, to beg legal icon Afe Babalola.

This online news platform recalls that Farotimi was arrested and put behind bars over alleged defamation of the person of Afe Babalola. The Nigeria Police had arrested the human rights lawyer following a defamation petition filed by Afe Babalola and other prominent Nigerians.

The human rights lawyer was sent back to jail after the ruling on his bail application was adjourned till December 20, 2024.

During this period, Obi visited Babalola in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, southwest Nigeria, and pleaded with him to consider Farotimi’s ” situation,” who is currently cooling his feet at the Ekiti prison.

According to Channels Television, Temokun said Farotimi is in high spirits and he is optimistic that he would defeat his challengers in the different courts, revealing he had never sent anyone to plead on his behalf.

“He (Farotimi) said if anybody who is very familiar with his antecedents, with his principles, with his philosophy overtime should join anybody to believe that in a matter where he had written a book that he had published and that had been in circulation, that if anybody, somebody who has a brain should join others to believe that he has sent anybody to beg anybody, he said he will be so disappointed in that person.

“He told me categorically that even you, Tope if you join anybody to believe that I could beg anybody or that I have sent anybody to beg anybody, I will be so disappointed in you,” the lawyer said.
