JUST IN: Ikeja Electric Slashes Electricity Tariff

Newsone Nigeria reports that Ikeja Electric has provided a critical update on the pricing for its Band A feeders.

This online news platform recalls that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), had charged customers with a daily supply of a minimum of 20 hours to pay N225/Kwh.
However, under the approved review, Band A customers are now to pay N206.80/Kwh.
“Effective May 6th, 2024, we will undertake a downward tariff review, cutting the rate from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh.
“This modification comes with the certainty of continuing availability, ensuring that you have access to energy for 20-24 hours each day. We stay devoted to offering dependable service that meets your requirements.
“It’s important to note that the tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged at this time,” the electricity company stated.
Meanwhile, Newsone reports the Nigerian government despite the two-week request issued by the Trade Union Congress calling for the hike reversal, has said there is no going back on the recent electricity tariff hike.
Florence Eke, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Power, made this known in a statement on Sunday while reacting to organized Labour’s ultimatum.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Power said the justification the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had given to the Senate public hearing last week remained valid.
She said the government was “not toeing the path of trade unions” on the issue of electricity tariffs.
However, on Sunday, the Trade Union Congress insisted on the two-week ultimatum the organized Labour gave the federal government to reverse the tariff.
