Senator Dino Melaye, the lawmaker representing Kogi West at the Nigerian Senate, has accused the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to arrest leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his senatorial district.
YaahooJourmalist reports that the Kogi West lawmaker made this allegation the micro-blogging site on Monday morning, November 11.
Senator Melaye alleged that the APC held a leadership meeting and that the resolution of the meeting is to arrest PDP leaders across the Kogi West Senatorial District.
This online news platform understands that the PDP lawmaker claimed that the APC is allegedly taking this step because “it is obvious that they cannot win” the Kogi West Senatorial Rerun election.
Senator Melaye called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, the Department of State Services (DSS) as well as the Nigerian Army not to “allow thier institutions to be used to perpetuate crime.”
The PDP lawmaker tweeted: “APC leadership Meeting held across all Local Govts in Kogi West tonight.
“Resolution is to arrest Pdp leaders across the West Senatorial District as it is obvious that they can not win.
“The IG, DSS and Army should not allow thier institutions to be used to perpetuate crime.”
“We will resist with every force available any illegal arrest of Pdp members. Taofik isah and Co we know more than you think…. Waiting…”
YaahooJournalist recalls that the Election Tribunal sacked Senator Melaye as the Kogi West Senator, displeased with the judgment, the lawmaker approached the Court of Appeal which also upheld the judgment of the tribunal and ordered a fresh election in the senatorial district.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the Kogi West Senatorial rerun election for November 16, the same day with the Kogi governorship election.
Senator Melaye, a lawmaker on the platform of the PDP, will be contesting the election against Smart Adeyemi of the APC.
