1. Cash withdrawal limits: Senate grills CBN chiefs tomorrow

The Senate will on Friday grill two deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria over the cash withdrawal limit policy unveiled by the apex bank on Tuesday. The red chamber planned to seek clarifications on the new directive which restricts over-the-counter cash withdrawal by individuals and organisations to N100,000 and N500,000, respectively, per week.

2. FG recovers N120bn from proceeds of crime

The Federal Government on Wednesday said it had recovered over N120bn from the proceeds of crime following the implementation of the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act, 2022. It said the fund would be deployed for the construction of major highways, adding that the administration’s fight against corruption was very much on track. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this at the 8th edition of the ‘PMB Administration Scorecard Series (2015-2023)’, where the Minister of Environment made a presentation on achievements by the environment ministry.

3. Contesting presidency again will diminish me – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will never contest for the Presidency of the country again. He said he would be diminishing himself if he should decide to begin to lobby people and campaign for election again.

Jonathan said this in an interview published in a book, ‘My Time As Chaplain In Aso Rock,” presented to the public on Tuesday. The book written by Nathaniel Bivan contains the accounts of the Chaplain of the Aso Rock Villa Chapel during the Jonathan administration, Obioma Onwuzurumba.

4. EFCC auctions forfeited cars, wants compliance with guidelines

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced the auctioning of 435 cars, which are subjects of final forfeiture orders in Lagos, in line with the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004; Public Procurement Act 2007 and the Proceeds of Crimes (Recovery and Management) Act 2022.

The exercise, scheduled to take place across all the commission’s zonal commands, started on Tuesday, in Lagos with an inspection of items by members of the public, while the auction started on Wednesday and will continue on Thursday (today). In Lagos, the items are available in four locations -40, Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; 14 Cameroon Road, Ikoyi Lagos and CVU Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos.

5. Sanwo-Olu is my father, 27-year-old Delta man claims

A 27-year-old man and father of three children, Emmanuel Sanwo-Olu, has expressed a strong desire to see the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whom he claims to be his biological father. According to him, his mother had just told him that the Lagos governor was his father.

Making the assertions while speaking with journalists at the premises of the Delta State High Court 2 sitting in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta on Tuesday, Emmanuel, who claimed that his mother hails from Oleri community in the Udu Local Government Area, maintained that his mother had only him for Sanwo-Olu before she married another man for whom she had other children. “I am 100 per cent sure that I am the son of Governor Sanwo-Olu”, the young man insisted, saying, “I just want to see the man, Sir, as my father.”

6. Fund diversion: D’banj doesn’t engage in illegal dealings – Lawyers

A popular singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo also known as D’banj, has denied the allegations levelled against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission of fraudulently diverting funds meant for the beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s economic empowerment programme, N-Power. D’banj was reportedly detained by the ICPC on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, after being questioned by officials of the commission.

In a statement sent to The PUNCH by the singer’s lawyers, Law Corridor, it described reports of D’banj’s arrest as “malicious and prejudicial.” The statement titled, ‘D’banj encourages ICPC to do its investigation and cautions against media trial’, and signed by Maryam Musa, the law firm’s assistant team head, litigation, read, “The media is awash with reports of Oladapo Oyebanjo (D’banj) in ICPC custody with regards to unestablished (sic) allegations of fraud for which it has become crucial to make the following statement for the purpose of clarity and to set public records straight.

7. Gunmen kidnap ex-Cross River Accountant-General, three others

A former Accountant-General of Cross River State, Rose Bassey, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen. It was gathered that the victim and three others were abducted on Tuesday evening at Uyanga-Okomita area of the Ikom-Calabar highway. One of the victims was said to have been shot and is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

8. NAF bombs bandit hideouts, kills scores in Kaduna

The Nigerian Air Force aerial assaults on terrorist camps across three Local Government Areas of Igabi, Chikun and Birnin-Gwari in Kaduna State have led to the killing of many terrorists. The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, was, however, silent on when the operations were carried out.

He said, “The Nigerian Air Force has continued with assaults on identified bandit camps and enclaves around Kaduna State. “Feedback to the Kaduna State Government revealed that a camp in Riyawa, Igabi LGA, was targeted and destroyed. A terrorist location at Tofa general area of Birnin Gwari LGA was similarly engaged and struck.

9. Police rescue three Abuja kidnap victims, recover arms

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued three kidnap victims and commenced investigation into the Tuesday night security breach occasioned by armed robbery, shootings and abduction of some persons in the Kubwa Relocation Estate, off Arab Road area of the FCT.

The Commissioner of Police, Sunday Babaji, noted that the swift response of men of the command in an aggressive manhunt of the perpetrators, resulted in the rescue of three victims and the recovery of firearms and ammunition, including one AK-47 riffle, 25 rounds of ammunition. The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement acquired by our correspondent Wednesday morning.

10. Bribe-seeking policemen raid Lagos community, residents blame DPO

Landlords and residents of Isheri-Idimu in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State have lamented what they described as the arbitrary arrest and assault on people in the community by men of the Idimu Police Division. Officers of the division were also accused of extorting money from motorcycle riders over the failure of their union leaders to remit certain fees to them.

On Friday, December 2, around 8.25pm, PUNCH Metro observed as the officers, numbering about 15, stormed the Powerline unit of the motorcycle operators and beat up some of the riders. The policemen, who arrived in two commercial buses, were also seen assaulting traders and passengers who attempted to intervene, as they made away with six motorcycles.
