A former Minister of Women Affairs in President Muhammadu Buhari’s first tenure, Jummai Alhassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba, has decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from United Democratic Party (UDP).

YaahooJournalist reports that the former Buhari minister made the decision during a stakeholders meeting of UDP in Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba State, northern Nigeria.

This online news medium recalls that the former Buhari minister contested the governorship election on the platform of UDP during the 2019 general elections.

Giving a reason for her decision, the former Buhari minister said her defection to PDP was based on the outcome of the opinion poll during a stakeholders meeting.

Mama Taraba said during the meeting that she had no option than to go by the decision of the majority members of UDP and decamp to PDP.

The stakeholders meeting the former minister referred to, took place at Mama Taraba’s Jalingo residence.

The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by representatives of UDP members from 168 wards across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Buhari’s former minister is joining the PDP a year after she resigned from Buhari’s “Change government.”

The former Minister in a letter dated Saturday, 29 September 2018, which she sent to the President, thanked President Buhari for the opportunity to serve.

Mama Taraba dumped the ruling APC with all local government party leaders as well as some state lawmakers and joined UDP for the 2019 governorship election in Taraba but lost.
