Governor Obaseki has banned #EndSARS protests in Benin.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Edo State Government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki has proscribed all #EndSARS activities in Edo state following an attack on a prison by hoodlums on Monday, October 19.

The Edo Governor imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state till further notice which will effectively put an end to the protests.

This online news medium understands that the development is coming after hoodlums hijacked #EndSARS protests in Edo, taking over a police station and releasing prisoners from a detention facility in the process.

Reacting to the development in a statement released shortly after the incident, Governor Obaseki announced a 24 hour curfew in the state, calling on parents to “reign in their wards to prevent further breakdown of law and order”.

“The responsibility of government is to protect lives and property and maintain law and order, therefore, anyone found outside in violation of the curfew would be dealt with according to the law,” the Edo Governor opined.

Meanwhile, #EndSARS campaigners have, however, raised suspicions of ‘foul play’, accusing Governor Obaseki of sponsoring the hoodlums to lay a convenient grounds for a curfew, an allegation which the governor has  denied.
