Newsone Nigeria reports that Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, returned to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, early Friday morning, August 23, 2024, following a brief work stay in France.
This online news platform understands that President Tinubu arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 2:25 am.
Later today, the President is set to swear in the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, at the State House Council Chambers.
This ceremony will mark the formal appointment of Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the new CJN, succeeding Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who has recently retired.
President Tinubu departed for France on Monday, where he spent a few days on official business before returning to Nigeria.
Newsone recalls that the National Judicial Council, NJC, had recommended Justice Kekere-Ekun for the position during its 106th meeting on August 15.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony would occur today, as previously scheduled.
“President Tinubu will swear in Justice Ariwoola’s successor at the State House Council Chambers on August 23, 2024,” Ngelale stated.
