1. The Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division has sentenced two Chinese nationals, Mr. Meng Wei Kun and Mr. Xu Kuai to three years imprisonment for corruption. It was learnt that the convicts were earlier arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto, on a 3-count charge bordering on conspiracy, money laundering and attempted bribery.

2. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has told the governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, that he is still in charge. The governor said this while reacting to a public warning earlier issued by Yusuf. The governor-elect had asked people to stay off public buildings and to avoid constructing anything on government lands, schools and other public places.

3. No fewer than three persons have been killed and several houses burnt in Obi and Otukpo Local Government areas of Benue state following the lingering crisis over electricity supply in the area. Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Security Matters, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba confirmed this to newsmen on Friday.

4. Members of the Muslim community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Friday, staged a protest following the alleged invasion of a mosque in the Ilare area by some Oro adherents. The protesters said on Thursday, the traditionalists entered the mosque, where some Muslims had gathered to observe the 4pm prayers, and attacked those they found in the building.

5. A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has requested the Peoples Democratic Party to apologise for suspending him from the party. He described his suspension as “libellous and defamatory” with the aim to soil his personality.

6. The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party on Friday announced the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, over corruption allegations and other infractions. Abure’s suspension was announced at a press conference in Abuja, where the aggrieved party officials disclosed that the decision to hand down the sanction was a collective one. However, the party’s national headquarters has dismissed the suspension.

7. The controversy surrounding the rumoured resignation of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, ended on Friday when the Presidency confirmed his resignation. The Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this via his verified Twitter handle. He said Sylva resigned to pursue his governorship ambition.

8. The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has expressed reservation over the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to obey the court order directing it to release to the party the Certified True Copies of documents used in the governorship elections. He described the action as suspicious.

9. The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, yesterday sealed the hall of BON Platinum Hotel within the Independence Layout, Enugu. The venue was where the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, issued certificates to Governor-elect Peter Mbah, deputy Ifeanyi Ossai and House of Assembly members-elect.

10. The Eze Igbo, Ajao Estate, Lagos, Fredrick Nwajagu, has vowed to invite members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos to secure properties of Igbo people in the state. Nwajagu, in a 49-second video, shared on Twitter on Friday by @DeeOneAyekooto, said the move became necessary in the wake of attacks on some Igbo people in the state.
