Gunmen Kidnap Many Along Delta Expressway
Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an unknown number of people along the Uvwiamuge axis of the Ughelli/Agbarho section of the East-West road in Ughelli North council area of Delta State.
The Nation reports that the incident, which took all of 30 minutes, occurred at about 6:40 pm on Monday, September 16.
YaahooJournalist gathered that those abducted by the gunmen included the Personal Assistant to the Bishop of Flock of Christ Mission, Simeon Okah at the same spot nearly two months back.
According to the report, the abducted persons were released after paying undisclosed sums as ransom.
The Nation quoted witnesses to have said that the hoodlums, who were about 20, only fled the scene after a gun battle with policemen.
According to the witnesses said at least eight persons were kidnapped by the armed gunmen.
Some commuters, on the other hand, gave a different side of the story, saying that only four people were abducted by the gunmen and led through the thick bush along the highway.
According to the report, several vehicles were said to have been abandoned by motorists while others reversed to avoid being victims.
It was gathered that at least 30 police officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were sighted at the scene after the ordeal.
The Delta State Police Commissioner, Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the incident.
Adeleke revealed an investigation is already ongoing, adding that only one person was kidnapped, as his men stepped in time to save the situation.
