President Muhammadu Buhari has finally ordered the release of Sambo Dasuki and Omoyele Sowore from prison, bowing to pressure from the US Congress.

YaahooJournalist reports that Buhari-led Federal Government ordered the release of Dasuki, a former National Security Adviser (NSA) and Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow, on Tuesday, December 24.

Their release was made known in a statement by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Malami said the decision to release Sowore and Dasuki was in compliance with the bail granted them by the court.

“The two defendants are enjoined to observe the terms of their bail and refrain from engaging in any act that is inimical to public peace and national security as well as their ongoing trial which will run its course in accordance with the laws of the land,” the statement read in part.

A fact check by YaahooJournalist shows that President Buhari moved to release the duo after receiving a letter from the US Congress.

Before his release, Dasuki had spent four years in detention while Sowore has spent over 130 days in the Department of State Service (DSS) custody.

Sowore was arrested by the DSS after he called for a revolution against the Buhari administration while Dasuki on the other hand, was arrested over $2.5 billion arms deal under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
