Nigerian Senate Confirms Tanko Muhammad As CJN
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Tanko Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Yaahoo Journalist reports that Muhammad was confirmed at the Senate plenary on Wednesday, July 17.
The upper legislative chamber had earlier gone into a closed-door session over his confirmation.
The Nigerian Senate went into the session after Abdullahi Abubakar, senate leader, moved a motion for the confirmation of Muhammad.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday asked that copies of Muhammad’s curriculum vitae (CVs) be shared among the senators.
Yaahoo Journalist reports that Muhammad, who replaced Walter Onnoghen, has been occupying the office of CJN in an acting capacity since January.
Muhammad took over the office after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Onnoghen for alleged misconduct.
