At least one person has been killed and five others injured in the South African capital of Johannesburg, in what is believed to be a fresh Xenophobic attack.

YaahooJournalist understands that the Xenophobic attack occurred on Sunday, September 8, after security forces clashed with looters in the latest outbreak of xenophobic violence, the police said.

The development is coming after Johannesburg and other cities in South Africa were hit by a surge of attacks against businesses owned by Nigerians and other foreigners last week, leaving at least 10 people dead and prompting protests from several African countries.

Speaking on the Xenophobic attack, South African Police said riot police fired stun grenades and rubber bullets to break up crowds targeting shops in the city’s Central Business District (CBD) on Sunday.

“We can confirm one person was reported dead,” police spokesperson Xlolani Fihla told AFP. “We can’t confirm the cause of death.”

Captain Kay Makhubele, a national police force official, told eNCA news that five more people were reported injured.

The South African Police said later on Twitter that the CBD, Jeppestown, and Hillbrow neighbourhoods were under control.
