1. The Independent National Electoral Commission has debunked a report accusing its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of attempts to distort the governorship election results in Abia State. The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the only communication sent to the state Returning Officer was the commission’s directive suspending further collation of results.

2. The United States has condemned voter intimidation and increased violence that marred Saturday’s governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections in Nigeria. The US Embassy in a statement on Tuesday, said however, the March 18 governorship and state assembly polls appeared to have had significant operational improvements.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has once again expressed his desire to leave power. While speaking at a farewell meeting with the outgoing United States Ambassador, Mary Beth Leonard, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, the Nigerian leader said, “I am eager to go,”.

4. The Zamfara State Government has imposed a statewide curfew after the governorship election. In a statement, Ibrahim Dosara, Commissioner for Information, said the measure was taken to check violence.

5. Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared his intention to contest Senate presidency in the 10th National Assembly. Kalu, who has won re-election to represent Abia North in the Red Chamber, disclosed this Tuesday while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly.

6. President-elect, Asíwájú Bola Tinubu, yesterday, condemned what he described as “isolated” cases of infractions, ethnic slurs and violence that trailed the 2023 General Elections, declaring that elections were now over for the healing process to begin.

7. Anxiety over the release of the results of the governorship elections in Enugu and Abia States continued, yesterday, as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party, LP, continued to lay claims to victories. Both parties have continued to mount pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare the results and announce their candidates as the winner.

8. Candidates who lost Saturday’s governorship election and their supporters yesterday protested the outcome of the poll and vowed to challenge the results in court. There were protests by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, supporters in Ogun and Nasarawa states just as the All Progressives Congress in Kano State gave the Independent National Electoral Commission seven days to declare the governorship election in the state inconclusive.

9. The Election Petitions Tribunal that will hear cases emanating from the National and state Assembly elections in Osun State has received no fewer than 14 petitions, while its counterpart in Oyo State received 20 petitions on Tuesday.

10. Four presidential candidates on Tuesday approached the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja with separate petitions, seeking the nullification of the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the February 25 presidential poll. The petitioners are Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of Labour Party, Solomon Okangbuan of Action Alliance and Allied People’s Movement’s Chichi Ojei.
