BREAKING: Coronavirus In Nigeria Rises To 111, NCDC Confirms 14 New Cases

Coronavirus in Nigeria has risen to 111 with the confirmation of 14 new cases by the NCDC.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced fourteen confirmed cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), increasing the total number to one hundred and eleven (111) in Nigeria.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that of the fourteen new cases announced by the NCDC, nine were found in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city and five in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Giving an update on the spread of the disease, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted: “Fourteen new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Lagos and 5 in FCT As at 09:30 pm 29th March there are 111 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 1 death.

“As at 09:30 pm 29th March, there are 111 confirmed cases 1 death For a breakdown of cases by states in real-time, please see covid19.ncdc.gov.ng Currently; Lagos- 68 FCT- 21 Ogun- 3 Enugu- 2 Ekiti- 1 Oyo- 7 Edo- 2 Bauchi- 2 Osun-2 Rivers-1 Benue- 1 Kaduna- 1,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the development came a few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a total lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja over the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.

Newsone Nigeria reports that President Buhari stopped all movements in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in a presidential broadcast on Sunday evening, March 29.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that the President said the no-movement order will be for an initial period of 14 days.

President Buhari said: “Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11 pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States. 

“All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes. Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period. 
“The Governors of Lagos and Ogun States, as well as the Minister of the FCT, have been notified. Furthermore, heads of security and intelligence agencies have also been briefed. 
“We will use this containment period to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that have come into contact with confirmed cases. We will ensure the treatment of confirmed cases while restricting further spread to other States.
