1. The Federal Government, on Friday, said it has not suspended the removal of fuel subsidy. On Thursday, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, had said the government had suspended the planned removal of subsidy on petroleum products by the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. She, however, said yesterday that the removal was on course.
2. Senators-elect from the North Central geopolitical zone, on Friday night in Abuja met and declared support for Sani Musa for the position of the Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly. The senator-elect for Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Aliyu Wadada, who convened the meeting, said they would not settle for any position other than the Deputy Senate President.
3. President-elect, Bola Tinubu hosted two governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Defence House, Abuja, on Friday. Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, held a meeting with the incoming president.
4. The Gubernatorial Transition Committee (GTC) of the Kano State governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf has alleged that the outgoing government of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is undermining and sabotaging the transition process. However, the state government said the allegation was unfounded, claiming that the GTC had refused to submit the names of its three nominees to the government’s transition committee.
5. A newborn baby abandoned in a refuse dump in front of Mile 3 Motor Park, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was early Friday rescued by a member of a vigilante group. It was gathered that the cry of the female child, who was wrapped in clothes and left in the cold, attracted the vigilante member who was on a routine patrol around 3am.
6. The embattled National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has called for a meeting of the party’s administrative organ, the National Working Committee. The meeting scheduled for next Wednesday was revealed in a leaked memo to all NWC members.
7. The Oyo State Police Command has paraded an 18-year-old man, Taofeek Adeagbo, for allegedly killing his father. The suspect’s mother, Rashidat, was also arrested for concealing the crime. Parading the suspects alongside 23 others in Ibadan, on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the incident occurred in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area of the state.
8. The leadership of the Labour Party on Friday knocked President Muhammadu Buhari for claiming opposition parties lost the February 25 presidential election as a result of overconfidence. Reacting to Buhari’s comment, acting National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, in a statement yesterday, alleged that the president was aware that the presidential candidate of the LP, Peter Obi, won the poll.
9. The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has urged opposition political parties to team up with the incoming government of the All Progressives Congress to take Nigeria to the next level of development. Lawan said that with the conclusion of the general elections, it was time for governance which is for everyone.
10. With seven months to the Kogi State governorship election, President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, in Abuja, endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Usman Ododo. This was as Ododo said he was committed to building on the developmental strides of the current governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, which, according to him, were achieved through inclusive governance.
