BREAKING: Tinubu Ministerial Portfolios Released, Wike Assigned FCT Minister [Full List]

A video of former Governor Wike rejecting Ministerial Appointment has gone viral.

Newsone reports that an old video of the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying he did not intend to become a minister after his tenure as governor is trending following the release of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial list with 28 nominees.

This online news platform had reported earlier that former Governor Wike was named in President Tinubu Ministerial List submitted to the Nigerian Senate on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Chief of Staff to the President, who is the immediate past Speaker of the House of the Representatives, presented the list to Senate President Godswill Akpabio at exactly 01:19 pm.

After the release of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial list with 28 nominees including Wike, a video where the former Rivers Governor said he was not going to be a Minister under the new administration resurfaced.
In August 2022, Nyesom Wike, the then Rivers State Governor, said that he was not interested in becoming a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after his tenure as governor.Wike stated this on Tuesday, 16th August 2022, at the inauguration of the newly constructed lounge at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The former Governor had said, “Only one person can be a minister from a state, I will not be a minister. I will not. I am not a liability, Rivers State is an asset.

“So if you don’t want to win an election, it’s your business. I’m not the one running the election.

“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him,” former Governor Wike had said.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that as the usual practice in Nigeria, ministerial appointments are usually some of the appointments used to compensate aspirants who lost out or stepped down in a political contest but in Wike’s case, it is rumoured that he worked for Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 Presidential Election against Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike is a member of the PDP.
