Newsone reports that the 16th edition of The Headies, the annual award ceremony celebrating outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry is live today, Sunday, September 3, 2023.

This online news platform understands that the 16th Headies otherwise referred to as The Headies 2023 or The Headies Award 2023,  kicks off at the Cobbs Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, United States.

The award ceremony features over 20 categories, including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. The nominees for each category were announced in July, and they include some of the biggest names in Nigerian music, such as Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, Asake, and Ayra Starr.

According to the organisers of the Nigerian music award, the red carpet session of The Headies Award 2023 will kick off at 2 pm, followed by the main ceremony at 5 p.m.

Newsone Nigeria reports that this year’s edition of the award event is the second time the award ceremony will be held outside Nigeria since its inception in 2006.

Award-winning actress and producer Osas Ighodaro and American actor, TV presenter, and model Terrence J have been confirmed to host the 16th annual Headies Awards.

The red carpet session of the 16th Headies was scheduled to kick off by 2 p.m. while the main ceremony starts by 5 p.m. The award ceremony will be broadcast live on HipTV, Channel 324 on DStv, and Channel 74 on GOtv.

The Headies Award 2023 can also be watched on social media via HipTV’s YouTube and Facebook accounts. Fans of the award can follow the event via The Headies’ official Twitter (X) handle.

Asake, Kcee, Fireboy DML, Ayra Starr, Victony, Seyi Vibez, Blaqbonez, Spyro, Wande Coal, Rema, Oxlade, Johnny Drille, Libianca, Niniola, and Young Jonn are all expected to perform at the 16th Headies.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that The Headies Award was created as The Global Awards for Afrobeats Music across Africa and even beyond.

Several music stars have won The Headies in the past including Davido, Wizkid, and 2Baba. The award ceremony has also been trailed by heated controversies on several occasions.
