Complete List of Ballon d’Or 2023 Winners As Messi Shines, Victor Osimhen Makes History

The complete list of Ballon d’Or 2023 Winners has emerged.

Newsone reports that Inter Miami superstar and Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has now won the Ballon d’Or for a record-extending eighth time.

This online news platform understands that the 36-year-old Messi was announced the winner of the Ballon d’Or 2023 ahead of Manchester City’s striker, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.

The 36-year-old’s triumph comes mostly due to his exploits with Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they defeated France in the final. He first earned it in 2009 and then in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021.

Haaland, who scored 52 goals last season as City won the treble in the 2022/2023 campaign, finished second in the voting and won the Gerd Muller Trophy given to the best striker of the year. Messi’s Argentina team-mate, Emiliano Martinez, won the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.

Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham, went home with the Kopa Trophy as the world’s best U-21 footballer while Vinicius Jr was crowned with the Socrates Award.

On the other hand, Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the fifth edition of the Ballon d’Or Feminin, the first time the 25-year-old has received the award.

Bonmati, who won the World Cup Golden Ball, helped Spain win the tournament in August.

In a related development, Newsone Nigeria reports that Napoli and Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen made the top 10 in this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings.

The 24-year-old was confirmed as the eighth-best player in the world during the award ceremony in Paris on Monday, October 30, 2023. It comes after Osimhen led the Serie A club to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The Super Eagles frontman scored 26 times in 32 league appearances for Naples as they won the title.

Osimhen finished ahead of Real Madrid veteran Luka Modric (10th) and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva (9th). In making the top 10 list of the Ballon d’Or 2023 rankings, Osimhen made history as the first Nigerian to achieve this feat.
