Tinubu Government Increases Nigerian Passport Fees Amid Hardship

The Tinubu Government has increased Nigerian passport fees amid hardship.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Bola Tinubu, has announced an upward review of the fees for the Nigerian passport.

The spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, DCI Kenneth Udo, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the new price would be effective from September 1, 2024.

Udo added that the move was part of the efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport.

According to the statement, a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity, which was hitherto charged at N35,000, will now be N50,000.

Similarly, a 64-page passport booklet with 10-year validity previously charged at N70,000 will be N100,000 from September 1.

“However, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora,” he said.

Expressing regrets about any inconvenience the development may cause prospective applicants, the NIS assured citizens of an unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.

Meanwhile, Newsone reports that the increase in Nigerian Passport Fees is coming weeks after a nationwide protest in Nigeria called: the “EndBadGovernance protest” which was to call the attention of the Federal Government to the hardship in the country under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
