The Nigerian Senate is screening Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for confirmation as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Newsone Nigeria reports that Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has been serving as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria since August following the retirement of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola.
At the commencement of the screening on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Kekere-Ekun was accompanied by Justices of the various courts and members of her family.
This is coming barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu wrote to the Senate, asking the House to screen and confirm her as CJN.
President Tinubu in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio said, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN.
“While it is my hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the senate, please, accept the distinguished senate president the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
