BREAKING: Total Blackout in Nigeria As National Grid Collapses Again

National Grid has collapsed again leaving Nigerians in total blackout.

Newsone Nigeria reports that Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed again.

This online news platform understands that the power supply was interrupted around 8:36 am on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

This is the third time this will happen in just one week.

The latest collapse occurred early Saturday morning, with many states reporting total blackouts.

Newsone obtained data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), which revealed that the grid recorded zero megawatts (MW) as of 8:36 a.m. today.

This latest failure comes on the heels of two other collapses earlier in the week, further straining the already fragile power system.

Businesses and households continue to suffer from the nation’s unreliable electricity supply amid the high cost and unavailability of fuel.

The national grid recorded partial failure in August 2024, which resulted in a blackout. The national grid also collapsed in July this year.

Data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria showed that the country’s national grid has collapsed more than 227 times in the last 14 years.

This comes amid the hike in electricity tariff in April by 240 percent which has worsened the hardship Nigerians are facing.
