Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa impeached, a report says.

Newsone Nigeria reports that members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, January 13, 2025, impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

The impeachment of the Lagos Assembly Speaker came after lawmakers accused Obasa of multiple statutory and financial infractions.

‪The Lagos State House of Assembly impeached its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa over 43.5billion Naira fraud allegation supposedly for back up vehicles for the lawmakers. ‬

A report monitored on Peoples Gazette by Newsone Nigeria says the lawmakers replaced Obasa with his Deputy Lasbat Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, and was also a former chief whip of the House.

Meranda, who took her oath of office immediately, would serve as the first female speaker of the Lagos legislature.

Obasa, a 52-year-old politician, has been speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015.
