Governor Otti met President Tinubu on Tuesday, a few days after visiting Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu.
Newsone Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, where Nnamdi Kanu hails, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
This online news platform understands that the purpose of the meeting is reportedly connected with ongoing efforts to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Newsone recalls that a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to life imprisonment on terrorism-related convictions on November 20, 2025, sparking protests and calls for his release.
Governor Otti’s meeting with President Tinubu comes after the Abia State Governor visited Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto prison, where the IPOB leader is serving a life sentence for terrorism.
Governor Otti was accompanied on the Sokoto visit by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
After the prison visit, Governor Otti reaffirmed the state’s commitment to pursuing all legitimate avenues to secure Kanu’s release.
“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Governor Otti said.
Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is widely interpreted as part of Otti’s ongoing political and legal strategy, aimed at advancing dialogue and exploring possible solutions at the federal level.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, details of the meeting are yet to emerge.
