Kankara schoolboys who were abducted by bandits have been released.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that gunmen suspected to be bandits have released all the students abducted from Government Science Secondary School in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, northern Nigeria

This online news platform understands that the Kankara students who had been in the kidnappers’ den for six days before their release, are currently on their way to Katsina State.

Confirming the development in a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site, President Muhammadu Buhari said: “I welcome the release of the kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

“This is a huge relief to the entire country & international community. The entire country is grateful to Governor Masari, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military and the Police Force.

“Our administration is fully aware of the responsibility we have to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians.

“I ask Nigerians to be patient and fair to us as we deal with the challenges of security, the economy, and corruption. We will not relent,” the President tweeted about the Kankara schoolboys.

Meanwhile, NewsOne Nigeria recalls that gunmen, who came on motorbikes had invaded the school’s premises around 11 pm last Friday, shooting indiscriminately to scare residents. The operation led to the disappearance of over 300 students.

Boko Haram had on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack, saying:

“What happened in Katsina was done to promote Islam and discourage un-Islamic practices as Western education is not the type of education permitted by Allah and his Holy Prophet.

“They are also not teaching what Allah and his Holy Prophet commanded. They are rather destructing the Islam. It may be subtly, but Allah the Lord of the Skies and Earths knows whatever is hidden. May Allah promote Islam, may we die as Muslims.”

“In a nutshell, we are behind what happened in Katsina,” he said.
