BREAKING: After Months On The Run, Former Governor Yahaya Bello Surrenders To EFCC

After months on the run, Yahaya Bello has surrendered to the EFCC.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, after months of evading arrest.

A statement by Yahaya Bello’s media office confirmed that the former Kogi governor went to the EFCC office with his lawyers on Tuesday morning, November 26, 2024, following the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed the state’s case on the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.

It was gathered that the former governor drove himself in a black Hilux to the EFCC office with his lawyers.

Meanwhile, Newsone recalls that the EFCC declared Yahaya Bello wanted in April over the inability of the former governor to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja for his arraignment over alleged N84bn money laundering.

In a post on its official Facebook page on Thursday, April 18, 2024, the anti-graft agency urged Nigerians with useful information about Bello’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The post reads, “EFCC Declares Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Wanted. Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station,” the post added.
