The minister of youths and sports, Sunday Dare, says members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will enjoy the new N30,000 minimum wage.

YaahooJournalist reports that the minister of youths and sports disclosed this via Twitter on Wednesday evening.

The minister of youths and sports said the NYSC director-general, Shuaibu Ibrahim, would give details of the new monthly allowance.

According to him, “New Minimum Wage: NYSC members to enjoy new minimum wage/ allowee Details coming …,” he tweeted.

“Next week the DG NYSC will provide details of the new allowee for the Youth Corp members after full briefing from the Ministries of Finance And MYSD.”

YaahooJournalist recalls that the NYSC DG had hinted in September the monthly allowance of corps members would be increased “immediately the federal government starts the payment of the new minimum wage.”

The NYSC DG spoke at the Lagos state orientation camp, Iyana Ipaja while assuring corps members nationwide that efforts were being made to ensure adequate welfare.

“Your monthly allowance would be increased immediately the Federal Government starts the payment of the new minimum wage to all public servants nationwide,” he had said.

“Efforts are in top gear at all levels to ensure adequate welfare for all corps members.”

The statement of the NYSC DG came after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the new minimum wage bill into law in April, approving N30,000 as the wages of workers.

Despite this, many states have been unable to pay the new minimum wage while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide strike.

On the other hand, Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, has been directed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to effect payment of the new minimum wage on or before 31st December 2019.
