Bayelsa Speaker Tonye Isenah Bows To Pressure, Resigns

Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has tendered his resignation to vacate his position, finally bowing to pressure from various quarters.

YaahooJournalist reports that Isenah tendered his resignation on Friday, September 27, following pressure mounted on him.

Isenah will officially vacate his position as Bayelsa Speaker on Monday, September 30.

It was learned that the Bayelsa speaker resigned after a series of pressure he faced by some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party.

YaahooJournalist reports that Monday Obolo representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2 is, however, expected to succeed Isenah.

It is believed that the development is an arrangement which is targeted at appeasing the people of the Southern Ijaw area where the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon hails from.

Reports gathered by YaahooJournalist says the Bayelsa speaker decided to resign so that he won’t be blamed in case the PDP fails to win the Governorship election.

“Isenah hinted of his resignation while addressing staff of the Assembly after presiding over plenary on Friday.

“Members of the House that witnessed the Speaker’s briefing were Felix Bonny Ayah, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, and Moses Marlon, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 3,” a source who requested anonymity said.
