Dethroned Emir Sanusi has been arrested by security operatives and whisked him out of the ancient city amidst tight security.

It was learned that the security operatives are heading to Nasarawa state where Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will spend the rest of his life in an asylum.

This online news platform understands that before Sanusi was taken away, he was said to have been put under house arrest by the heavy security personnel of DSS, Police and Military. The arrest was after the security operatives sealed off the Palace.

A report on The Nation Newspaper quoted an impeccable source at the Government House to have hinted that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who is presiding over an emergency Executive Council Meeting, is set to announce the new emir any moment. The names of some powerful aristocrats with a direct lineage to the Palace were tabled before Ganduje, who has the constitutional powers to appoint an Emir.

Meanwhile, NewsOne Nigeria had reported earlier that the Kano State government on Monday, March 9, dethroned Emir Muhammad Sanusi II. Emir Sanusi’s dethronement followed the Kano State Council Executive meeting presided over by the Governor Ganduje on Monday, March 9.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said Emir Sanusi’s dethronement was due to his “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor and other lawful authorities.”
