Ex-Nigerian President Abdulsalami Abubakar ‘Critically Sick’, Flown Abroad

Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former Nigerian President, is “critically sick” and has been flown abroad for medical treatment, YaahooJournalist understands.

YaahooJournalist reports that Abubakar is the current Chairman of the National Peace Committee in Nigeria.

It was learned that the retired Nigerian Army General is sick and hospitalized in a London Hospital in the United Kingdom.

YaahooJournalist reports that this was disclosed by Jackson Ude, a Communications Professional and former Director of Strategy and Communication under former President Goodluck Jonathan on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Thursday night, September 19.

“Please pray for General Abdulsalami Abubakar. He is sick and hospitalized in a London Hospital,” Ude, who is also a journalist, tweeted.

Meanwhile, YaahooJournalist reports that Abdulsalami Abubakar is a retired Nigerian Army General who was Nigeria’s Military Head of State from 9 June 1998 until 29 May 1999.

Abdulsalami Abubakar succeeded Sani Abacha upon Abacha’s death. During his leadership, Nigeria adopted a modified version of the 1979 constitution, which provided for multiparty elections.

Abdulsalami Abubakar transferred power to president-elect Olusegun Obasanjo on 29 May 1999.
