BREAKING: ASUU Declares Nationwide Protest, See Why

8-month-old ASUU Strike has been suspended.

Newsone reports that after eight months of embarking on the ASUU strike to press home their demands from the Federal Government of Nigeria, lecturers of public universities in the country have suspended the action.

This online news platform understands that the decision to suspend the ASUU strike was disclosed in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, by the official Twitter handle of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Friday morning, October 14, 2022, after a marathon meeting.

ASUU tweeted: “The Academic Staff Union of Universities (@ASUUNGR) has suspended the strike.”

The state branches of the union met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week, following which members voted to conditionally suspend the strike.

Newsone reports that the Court of Appeal had issued an order to ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard.

The National Executive Committee meeting was attended by chairmen of the state chapters and national executive members at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had been on strike since February 14 this year.
