The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally released the convener of the RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore.

YaahooJournalist reports that Sowore, a former Presidential candidate was released on Thursday evening, December 5 after spending 124 days in detention.

This was disclosed by an online news platform, Sahara Reporters, which is owned by the pro-democracy activist.

“FLASH: DSS releases Sowore on bail,” the online news platform tweeted.

The freedom of the Sahara Reporters publisher is coming after a court ruling ordered DSS to release him in the next 24 hours.

Earlier today, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja awarded the sum of N100,000 against DSS for disobeying an order for Sowore’s release.

The presiding judge said the DSS cannot constitute itself as parallel court of law and thereafter asked the DSS to release the activist within 24 hours.

“I am in charge of this court. I made an order, so which other court is sitting to review a bail order I signed.

“The prosecution is hereby ordered to release the accused person within 24 hours of my order. Case adjourned to tomorrow 6 December 2019 for report of compliance with my order,” Justice Ojukwu said.

The Presidential candidate and Olawale Bakare, his co-accused, are standing trial on seven counts of treasonable felony, fraud, cyber-stalking and insulting the president.

Sowore was arrested on August 3 by the DSS and had been in the custody of the secret service since the time despite orders for his release before the DSS finally obeyed court order and released him this evening.
