Philip Osondu, a former Nigerian footballer, has passed away at age 48, YaahooJournalist understands.

YaahooJournalist reports that the former Nigerian footballer died in a Belgian hospital on Friday, December 13.

This online news platform understands that Osondu had earlier taken himself to the hospital on Thursday after feeling unwell at work.

YaahooJournalist recalls that the ex-international had been a regular for the Nigerian youth teams but never quite cut it for the senior side.

Osondu was awarded the World Cup Golden Ball as the best player at the 1987 World U-16 tournament in Canada where Nigeria lost the final to the Soviet Union.
