Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Sunday night to win AFCON 2023.
Newsone Nigeria reports Nigeria’s Super Eagles ended the 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations on a disappointing note as the Jose Peseiro-led team lost the trophy to the host nation, Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles were looking to lift the trophy for the fourth time in their history when Captain William Troost-Ekong’s header in the 38th minute gave Jose Peseiro’s men the lead in the first half against the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
But the Ivorians levelled after the breakthrough of Franck Kessie’s header. With a few minutes left in the game, Sebastien Haller flicked the ball past Stanley Nwabali.
The Ivorians won 2-1 against Nigeria, courtesy of goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller helped The Elephants clinch their third AFCON trophy.
This means the Elephants of Ivory Coast have now levelled with Nigeria on three continental titles.
