Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba Impeached
Elder Simon Achuba, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, north-central Nigeria, has been impeached.
YaahooJournalist reports that the Kogi Deputy Governor was impeached on Friday by the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Achuba was impeached by the House of Assembly shortly after it received the report of a judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Kogi State Chief Judge Justice Nasir Ajanah.
Hassan Bello Abdulahi, the Majority Leader of the House, representing Ajaokuta state constituency, said Achuba was impeached following consideration of the report of the John Bayeshea-led committee.
The Majority Leader of the House explained said the report was accepted with lawmakers unanimously agreeing to impeach Achuba and “he, therefore, stands impeached.”
Mathew Kolawole, the speaker of the House, received the report on Friday following which the House went into a closed-door session to discuss its contents.
The committee, which was inaugurated on August 26, probed allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the Kogi Deputy Governor.
Before his impeachment, Simon Achuba accused Governor Yahaya Bello of withholding his salaries and imprest since 2017.
However, the Kogi State Government dismissed the allegation as untrue during the hearing by the committee.
