Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been sacked.
Newsone Nigeria reports that English Premier League giants, Manchester United, have sacked Ruben Amorim as their manager.
This follows Amorim’s comments after their 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Sunday, where the Portuguese criticized United’s hierarchy, asking them to “do their jobs” in a feisty press conference.
The 40-year-old leaves the role at Old Trafford after a topsy-turvy 14 months at the club. The club confirmed the sack in a statement on Monday, January 5, 2026.
According to the club statement, Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday. United currently sit in sixth place after 20 league fixtures.

The statement reads thus: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.
“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
“Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday,” the statement added.
