BREAKING: NLC President, Joe Ajaero Arrested By DSS

DSS has arrested NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.

This online news platform understands that the NLC President was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Monday morning, September 9, 2024.

A report monitored on Vanguard by Newsone Nigeria says the NLC President was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom, UK, for an official assignment when DSS picked him up.

Meanwhile, Newsone reports that Joe Ajaero’s arrest by the DSS is coming a few days after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) demanded an “immediate reversal” of the pump price of petrol across the country.

NLC made the demand in a post on the micro-blogging site, X formerly known as Twitter on Tuesday night, September 3, 2024, in reaction to the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit from N650 to N855 per litre across Nigeria by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The post reads: “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump of PMS across the country.”

Earlier, the union claimed they felt betrayed by President Bola Tinubu after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, increased the official price of fuel from N617 to N897 per litre.

Ajaero claimed that why they accepted the N70,000 minimum wage was an understanding that there would be no further increase in the price of fuel.

The NLC President threatened that in the coming days, the appropriate organs of Congress will be meeting to make appropriate decisions which will be made public.
