BREAKING: NLC and TUC Declare Nationwide Strike, See Why

NLC is set to embark on a nationwide warning strike this month.

Newsone reports that the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has fixed Tuesday, September 5, 2023, to proceed on a warning strike over the unbearable suffering faced by Nigerians after the subsidy removal policy.

This online news platform understands that the NLC nationwide warning strike was announced by NLC President, Joe Ajaero on Friday, September 1, 2023, after the union’s National Executive Council.

Labour also berated the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for interfering in the affairs of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), saying it would do everything to resist such undue interference.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that the apex workers union in Nigeria also accused the Imo State Government led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of meddling in their affairs.

The NEC, according to Ajaero, resolved “To commence a 2-day nationwide warning strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5th and 6th, 2023, to demonstrate our readiness for the indefinite strike later in the month and to also demand that the State vacate the illegally occupied National Headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

“To embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days or 21 days until steps are taken by the Government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country.

“To embark on a mass protest and rally in Imo State within September 2023 in preparation for a major shutdown of the state to compel the state government to stop the abuse and violation of the rights and privileges of workers and trade unions in the state.”
