Peter Mbah has been declared Enugu governor-elect.
Newsone reports that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, Barr. Peter Mbah has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Enugu State.
This online news platform understands that Peter Mbah’s declaration came after days of controversy over the results from the Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Newsone Nigeria reports that Barr. Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party came second in the keenly contested election according to the Returning Officer, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe.
The collation of the Enugu governorship election results was taken over by the INEC national headquarters in Abuja after those of them in Enugu could not have a common ground.
The INEC Returning Officer stated that after a review of the process, the votes for the PDP were reduced from 30, 350 to 16, 956.
Labour Party now has 157, 552, while PDP polled 160, 895 votes to emerge the winner, Iwe said. Frank Nweke of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, came third with 17, 983 votes.
The INEC Returning Officer then declared the PDP candidate, Mbah as the Enugu State governor-elect.
“That Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having satisfied all the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election, is hereby declared the winner of the election and is returned elected,” Mr Iwe declared.
