Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara was on Monday attacked by the Police.
Newsone reports that there was chaos in RFivers State as officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) sprayed water and teargas on the Governor of the State en route at the Rivers State House of Assembly to stop his impending impeachment by 24 lawmakers loyal to his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
This online news platform understands that the police officers attacked and doused Governor Sim Fubara with water on Monday morning alongside dozens of his supporters when the Governor arrived to the Assembly building in anticipation of the lawmakers starting the impeachment process against him.
In a video seen by Newsone Nigeria which has gone viral on the micro-blogging site, X formerly known as Twitter, supporters of Governor Sim Fubara could be seen lamenting about the treatment meted out to a sitting Governor
The Rivers State Assembly House Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, expressed sadness at the alleged arson claiming the incident was supervised by the Government House and Ehie from Ahoada East.
Three items were brought before the House on Monday: the removal of Ehie as House Leader; the impeachment of Fubara; and the suspension of Ehie, and three other lawmakers — Victor Okoh from Bonny, Goodboy Sokari also from Ahoada West as well as Adolphus Timothy from Opobo Nkoro.
A lawmaker, Sylvanus Nwankwo from Omuma presented the notice of impeachment as signed by 24 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Governor Fubara is accused of acts of gross misconduct unbecoming of his office. The Speaker asked that the notice of impeachment be forwarded to the governor and allow the legal process to take its course.
The plenary was adjourned “sine die”.
Governor Fubara later stormed the Assembly Complex amid his impending impeachment. The House members subsequently fled the Assembly Complex for safety as tear gas was fired outside the Complex.
