Popular food shopper Aunty Esther has died of breast cancer after rejecting a blood transfusion.

Newsone Nigeria reports that a popular food shopper and social media user, Mensah Omolola, better known on micro-blogging site X as Aunty Esther, has died after battling breast cancer.

Aunty Esther’s death was confirmed on Saturday night, December 27, 2025, by her caregiver, Aunty Muse, who reacted to a post announcing her passing.

Quoting an earlier post by @swaagsp, which read, “Unfortunately, we lost Aunty Esther. Very sad!”, Auntymuse wrote, “May her soul rest in peace.”

Aunty Esther, who was widely known for helping clients shop for food items and household supplies, had been battling breast cancer before her death.

December 4, 2025, Aunty Esther sparked nationwide debate after publicly rejecting a blood transfusion recommended by doctors as part of her cancer treatment, citing her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Her case drew significant public attention on X after Nigerians donated over ₦30 million to support her medical care. Charity advocate, Wisdom Obi-Dickson, popularly known on X as @Wizarab10, coordinated the fundraising.

On December 1, 2025, Dickson announced that a total of ₦30.7 million had been raised for AuntieEsther’s cancer treatment. Three days later, AuntieEsther disclosed that medical tests showed the cancer was confined to her breast and armpit areas.

She said doctors had proposed chemotherapy but advised that her blood levels needed to be improved first.

“My organs inside fine. Doc say she want to start chemotherapy but I go take injection,” she wrote, adding that she and her family had opted for treatment methods that would boost her blood count without transfusion.

She also thanked Nigerians for their generosity, saying, “I appreciate everybody. Thank you #Wizarab10 and #the_beardsina. God bless.”

Good morning Good afternoon Good evening.
I know say a lot of people want update.

I say make I tell una, my result don come out. I thank all of you for your money contributions.

Reacting to her claims, Obi-Dickson revealed that AuntieEsther’s church [Jehovah’s Witness] had warned her of possible disciplinary action, including disfellowship, if she accepted a blood transfusion.

The Charity advocate and social media influencer said doctors offered two options: a transfusion-supported treatment that was well within the donated funds, or a more expensive and prolonged alternative that avoided blood transfusion. He said she chose the latter in line with her religious beliefs.

“Though it will take longer and cost more, we have to respect her religious beliefs,” Obi-Dickson said at the time.

Obi-Dickson expressed frustration, noting that despite repeated medical advice, AuntieEsther, her family, and Jehovah’s Witness leaders insisted on refusing transfusion under any circumstance.

Thanks to you all that have been supportive with donation and care for Aunty Esther 🙏🏾

Latest update is that she is responding to care. Her blood levels are being optimized for the next phase of care.

The social media influencer suggested that their firm stance meant they should take greater responsibility for the outcome of her care.

Meanwhile, Newsone reports that twenty-three days after the controversy surrounding Aunty Esther’s refusal to take a blood transfusion, the popular food shopper has been confirmed dead after losing her battle to cancer.
