Newsone reports that a Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu, Kano State, northern Nigeria, on Thursday, December 14, 2022, sentenced to death by hanging an Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, who was charged with blasphemy.
This online news platform understands that the presiding judge, Ibrahim Yola, delivered the judgment in a court session that lasted over two hours.
The court also banned radio and television stations from broadcasting works produced by the cleric.
Similarly, the judge ordered the state government to confiscate the two mosques belonging to Abduljabbar.
Newsone Nigeria reports that the judgment on the popular Kano Islamic cleric is coming 15 months after the trial of the cleric before the Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu, presided over by Justice Yola.
Kabara was tried and sentenced to death on the issue bordering on blasphemous statements against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), an act described as capable of inciting public peace.
The popular Kano Islamic cleric was charged in July 2021 by the Kano state government.
