This online news platform understands that President Biden announced this on Sunday, July 21, 2024, amid mounting pressure from his Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill, top donors and Hollywood stars after a disastrous debate performance last month.

President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the US Presidential Election 2024 is coming after an increasing number of Democrat lawmakers publicly called for Biden to step aside.

In a statement he issued on Sunday and addressed to Americans, Newsone reports that the 81-year-old Joe Biden said he intended to seek reelection.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” part of his statement read.

The president said he will speak to Americans later this week in more detail about his decision.
