This online news platform understands that the protesters stormed the streets on Monday, chanting anti-government songs despite pleas from the government against protests.

The protesters in Niger state wielded placards such as ‘Enough is Enough’; ‘Stop Anti-Masses Policies’; ‘We Are Not Slaves In Our Country’; ‘Hardship Is Unbearable’, ‘Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back’, among others.

Meanwhile, Newsone recalls that the protest in Niger state is coming after Governor Mohammed Bago wooed residents of Niger with welfare packages last week to prevent the protest.

The Niger Governor had announced N20,000 wage allowance for state and local government civil servants and ordered the immediate release of 50,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains to be sold at subsidised rates to mitigate the current economic hardship.
