BREAKING: Shehu Dikko Appointed NSC DG As Tinubu Scraps Ministry of Sports

Shehu Dikko has been appointed NSC DG.

Newsone Nigeria reports that Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has appointed Mallam Shehu Dikko as the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

This online news platform understands that Shehu Dikko’s appointment as NSC DG came after President Tinubu scrapped the Ministry of Sports Development and replaced it with the NSC.

The Minister of the defunct Ministry of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, has been reassigned as Minister of State for Trade and Investment.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

The statement reads thus; “President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development. There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , North East Development Commission.

“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.

“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. The decisions were taken today at the meeting of Federal Executive Council in Abuja,” the statement added.

Before his appointment, Shehu Dikko was formerly the chairman of the League Management Company (LMC). He was appointed on December 26, 2014, and reappointed Chairman on April 4, 2019.
