Sleeping Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled has died after 20 years in a Coma.
Newsone Nigeria reports that Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, known to millions as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince”, has died after spending 20 years in a coma, his family announced on Saturday.
The prince, a nephew of billionaire Saudi Arabian investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, had been in a coma since being admitted to hospital following a car accident in 2005.
In a deeply emotional statement shared by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, the family expressed their sorrow and faith:
“O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.”
“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son.”
Over the years, he became a symbol of hope and endurance, with many across the Arab world keeping him in their prayers and wishing for his recovery.
Members of his family have shared videos and photographs of Prince Al Waleed connected to a life-support machine over the years. One showed him covered with a Saudi Arabian flag with the words “Our Country is in Our Hearts”.
Prince Al-Waleed, who was just 15 when the accident occurred during his military studies in London, remained in a vegetative state for two decades. His condition became a symbol of perseverance and paternal devotion, as Prince Khaled refused to withdraw life support, believing in divine healing.
Videos of the prince responding faintly to Quranic recitations had long captured public empathy across the Kingdom. In a video shared by his family five years ago, he was seen moving his fingers, giving hope to well-wishers who had hoped to see him make a full recovery.
Newsone reports that Prince Al-Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal and the nephew of billionaire investor Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. His story, marked by tragedy and hope, has left a lasting emotional imprint on the nation.
