Newsone reports that Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate review of the proposed N8,000 to 12 million households in Nigeria for six months to cushion the effect of the petrol subsidy removal.

This online news platform understands that President Tinubu gave the order on the review of the N8,000 palliative in a statement issued by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

The statement by the Presidential spokesman said President Tinubu also ordered that the whole range of the palliative package of the federal government be unveiled to Nigerians.

“That the N8,000 conditional cash transfer programme envisaged to bring succour to most vulnerable households be reviewed immediately.

“This is in deference to the views expressed by Nigerians against it,” the statement reads in part.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria recalls that President Tinubu had, in a request to the National Assembly, pointed out the intention to cater for the welfare of poor and weak households in the country under the National Safety Net Programme of the Federal Government.

President Tinubu insisted that the N8,000 palliative would be transferred monthly, digitally, to the accounts of 12m vulnerable and low-income households in Nigeria.
